B&W? No Way - Rainbow colors found in the 81st Oscars Red Carpet

My Observation:

In this Bad economic situation, even Hollywood's Stars are facing salaries cut. Budget is limited in directing and producing the Oscars night. Atomosphere is dull and seems the world is blanketed by a grey mask.

If you think the celebrities wearing Black and White to "celebrate" the economic downturn in the red carpet, YOU ARE DEFINITY WRONG!

Guess what? Actresses wear different monocolors on their bodies like Red, Blue, Pink, Lilac etc. Seems like their mood do not affected by the global recession while oppositely dress up in brightful colors to cheer up the world, giving thousand million audiences at home a room to forget the hardtime.

81st Academy Awards® - The Oscars Red Carpet

Clockwise start from upper left:

1 Amy Adams wears red Carolina Herrera accented with a multi-colored collar necklace by Fred Leighton.
2 Marion Cotillard on the red carpet in Dior.
3 Heidi Klum wears a red architectural gown by Roland Mouret.
4 Sarah Jessica Parker on the red carpet in Dior.
5 Frieda Pinto's deep blue gown is by John Galliano.
6 Penelope Cruz in ivory vintage Pierre Balmain.
7 Alicia Keys wearing a lilac Armani Prive gown.
8 Amanda Seyfried wears a brick red Valentino gown with a bold bow embellishment.
9 Natalie Portman in a bubble gum pink gown by Rodarte and jewelry by Kwiat Diamonds.
10 Best Supporting Actress nominee Marissa Tomei wears in silver by Versace.

My Analysis:

When the celebrities and stars are willing to dress up like peacock, should the designers produce dull and deadly color dresses in this tedious air?

What their customers' wants are dream and hope during the tsunami period. Thus, providing imagination through the clothes definity is the designers' job.

Especially for Christian Dior, with the misson of giving DREAM AND IMAGINATION,
just like what Dior's Chief Creative Director, John Galliano said: "It's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination."

Magazines and Reference Books

I love to read fashion magazines and trend reports. That's why i always collect and keep the Fashion Week editorial and supplements as my treasures.

Mingpao style magazines have been collected by me for years.

Sometimes, post magazine from SCMP Sunday is also a good resourse to catch the trend and get inspirations.

Other magazines like Vogue(British), BAZAAR and Marie Claire are great magazines not only read their articles but also the advertisments!
Few years ago, I bought a book talking about Color theory in Wan Chai Book Fair (Pageone)
At that time i couldn't digested it fully, but after i took this Fashion Trend Lectures, and read back my book, i got the meaning and found that color forecasting is mentioned in the book!
Amazing Re-discovery ^U^~~~

I also borrow a book from library - "THE GOLDEN AGE OF COUTURE : PARIS AND LONDON 1947-1957" EDITED BY CLAIRE WILCOX - V&A

It mentions about Dior's Golden Age - The New Look and other Brands' Couture, like BALENCIAGA.

Travel - John Galliano

John Galliano likes to travel per trip will be interpreted in the products,
the collected works of piecemeal Add fragment.

Because of his travels so that he understood the way of life of women of different cultures, understanding cultural differences, it is more close to the local market, more characteristics of products.

such as:

00/01 autumn and winter as a theme in British newspapers printing trousers.

03/04 autumn and winter of the Spanish dancers look, the high costs Lin's gorgeous costumes more developed;

in 2007 to play in spring and summer style Japanese-style, the stage version of the Western Japanese dolls amazing!

07 autumn and winter series is full of a Chromic, the Netherlands works of artist Johannes Vermeer and Marc Jacobs color Jimei, French and Japanese fashion Dacheng design, such as rainbow bright scenery is pleasing.

The people brought back from India is incapable of dazzling color and a decorative shell buttons for both the traditional service is lovely planning.

Christian Dior Biography

Biography

Christian Dior (January 21, 1905 – October 23, 1957), was an influential French fashion designer.

Acceding to his parents' wishes, Dior attended the Ecole des Sciences Politiques from 1920 to 1925. The family, whose fortune was derived from the manufacture of fertilizer, had hopes he would become a diplomat, but Dior only wished to be involved in the arts. After leaving school he received money from his father so that in 1928 he could open a small art gallery.

After a family financial disaster that resulted in his father losing his business, Dior was forced to shut down the gallery. In the 1930s Dior made a living by doing sketches for haute couture houses.

In 1938 he worked with Robert Piguet and later joined the fashion house of Lucien Lelong, where he and Pierre Balmain were the primary designers.
Mother's Influence

Dior Fahion House Established and the New Look

In 1945, he went into business for himself, backed by Marcel Boussac, the cotton-fabric magnate. Dior's fashion house opened in December 1946, and the following February, he presented his first collection, known as Corolle. It was more famously known as the New Look.

The actual phrase the "New Look" was coined by Carmel Snow, the powerful editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar. Dior's designs were more voluptuous than the boxy, fabric-conserving shapes of the recent World War II styles, influenced by the rations on fabric.
The New Look revolutionized women's dress and reestablished Paris as the center of the fashion world after World War II.

Style
He was a master at creating shapes and silhouettes; Dior is quoted as saying "I have designed flower women."

His look employed fabrics lined predominantly with percale, boned, bustier-style bodices, hip padding, wasp-waisted corsets and petticoats that made his dresses flare out from the waist, giving his models a very curvaceous form. The hem of the skirt was very flattering on the calves and ankles, creating a beautiful silhouette.

Business

Sunset of his life
Dior at 52, succumbed to a heart attack on 24.10.1957 during a trip to spa health centre.

Class Ex.1 - peers' work

What do you think about the recession?

CD Haute Couture S/S 2009

PARIS, January 26, 2009

By Sarah Mower

There are only two questions anyone is asking Paris couturiers this season: "What are your inspirations?" followed swiftly by, "And what do you think about the recession?" John Galliano's answers were "Flemish painters and Monsieur Dior," and to the point, "There's a credit crunch, not a creative crunch. Of course, everyone is being more careful with their discretionary purchases. I am. But it's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination."
